Interviews

With all the character interviews on this site the interviewer, unless I say otherwise, is unimportant and just a random person chosen to conduct the interview. I like to refer to him as Joe... but give him whatever name you like. If you have any questions you'd like to ask one of the girls don't hesitate to contact me with them and depending on the questions I may add them to the site in the future.

Q1: Can you introduce yourself?
A: *nods* My name is Alexzis Fitzroy... and I'm a vampire.

Q2: A vampire? Really? So you're dead?
A: No, actually I'm alive as you are. I was born this way.

Q3: You mean you were "sired"... isn't that how the stories go?
A: I guess that's how they go... but that isn't how it worked for me. I was literally born this way. My mother carried me for 9 months and when I came out, this is how I was.

Q4: But I thought vampires couldn't bear children...
A: They can't in this realm. My mother is human and carried me the way any human child would be carried. My father is undead... very much the vampire from stories. He died and was reborn and has lived longer and seen more than anyone else in this city. The bastard son of Henry VIII, doomed to walk the earth by night and never again watch the sunrise.

Q5: But if he's a vampire, and dead, shouldn't he not be able to have children? When you're body is dead how can you procreate?
A: It's true, vampires can't have children like everyone else... but on rare occasions it can happen. It happened for my parents in my father's dream. You see when vampires dream, which by the way is extremely rare, the things they dream about become real. A vampires dreams can be extremely dangerous for that very reason. My father says he only dreams once every hundred years or so, and only when he wants something very much or is very afraid.

Q6: So what you're saying is he dreamed you up then? He dreamed he had a daugther and there you were?
A: Once again, not exactly. He dreamed of my mother... of how much he loved her and wanted to be able to give her a part of himself. *long pause* He wanted to give himself to her like no other vampire has shared themselved with a woman, before he left.

Q7: I have alot of questions about all of that, but first.... What you're saying is he dreamed your mother was pregnant?
A: I'm sorry I don't explain this well. It's hard to help people understand things so far outside their mental picture of what is and isn't real.
No, he simply dreamed of my mother, and that there could be some way they could create something lasting of their love. I guess his dream acted as a fertility drug. *laughing uncomfortably* They did the rest like any couple.

Q8: Okay, I think I get it... but why didn't he just make your mother a vampire? Then they could be together forever right?
A: No... vampires are very territorials creatures. When a vampire creates another, once they teach them all there is to know, they must leave. Two vampires cannot survive long sharing a city with another vampire, let alone a home. The urge to establish dominance is just too strong. They'd end up destroying one another in time.

Q9: But you're a vampire. Do you ever feel the need to establish dominance over your father?
A: Not yet. I never saw my father growing up. He watches me from the shadows. I just want to know him, but for now, I just try to be happy knowing he's looking out for me by staying away. And I don't know if I'll ever feel that need. I'm not exactly like other vampires.

Q10: So the fact that you have a human mother... does that mean you're only half vampire?
A: I don't really think it works like that. See, vampires were all human at one point, except me obviously. They all have two mortal parents and one non-human sire. You could get into a whole debate about if I'm half human, or maybe more human than vampire, or more vampire, but I don't know that it makes a difference. I am vampire. I just came about it differently than most.

Q11: So does that mean you have vampire powers?
A: I guess some, but probably not to the extent you're imagining. I mostly just have certain human aspects hightened I guess. Like... I have a great sense of smell, I hear things I'm not meant to hear, and I'm far faster than humans when I want to be. But that's it. I can't read minds, or fly, or turn into an animal. I walk in the sun, I age, I can die like any human would. I even got the chicken pox when I was little.

Q12: A vampire with the chicken pox? You definately don't read about that in the stories...
A: Haha, no I suppose you don't. I hope you aren't disappointed.

Q13: Hardly, more just curious. You sound more or less human to me. Do you drink blood?
A: Only when I have to. I'll eat the same things as you when I can help it. Once in awhile though I start to lose my senses. Quite literally, my hearring, my sight, all of it starts fading until I drink again.

Q14: How often is that?
A: Usually I can go about 4 months between feedings but it's been about that now and I still feel fine. It varies.

Q15: Do you kill your meals after you're done with them?
A: No! No, never. You assume I find a human and bite the neck and drink like that... no most of the blood I drink is donated.

Q16: Donated, like blood bank?
A: Most of the time.

Q17: The rest of the time?
A: I've had a few people who let me feed directly from them. It's an amazing experience for them I'm told. Having a vampire feed from you is ecstasy, at least, that's what they tell me.

Q18: Interesting.... Back to your father. Is he going to be upset you're telling me all this?
A: It's hard for me to know for sure but I think mostly he's just going to worry. He's terrified of villagers with pitchforks and with good reason... He's been there done that.

Q19: Surely people have changed since that though... we've evolved.
A: It's good you think so.

You don't agree?
A: I think essentially people are good.... but they're afraid too. And vampires? We're fiends from horror movies to millions of people. you expect them to let that go and leave us in peace? Doubtful.

Q20: Do you blame movies then? For the perception people have of your kind?
A: No, not really. Even before movies people were afraid of us. People will always fear the unknown. The vampires in movies are merely representations of peoples fears. It's far scarier when things happen in the real world that scare people and that don't make sense. A series of murders, for example, where the victim was killed by punctures in the neck, is far more dangerous for my kind than an Anne Rice story put on film. People don't want to believe one of their own, normal, kind could do something so vicious so they look for something to place the blame on. It isn't that humans are narrow minded or anything. It's just their nature.

Q21: Don't you think that's a bit biased?
A: Maybe, but my mom's a human and I love her more than anyone. And if I could be human for a day I would trade everything else I have to experience being the same as everyone else if only for a moment.

Q22: Love.... I'm curious about what it's like for a vampire to love. Aren't vampires soulless demons?
A: I'm very proud of my soul, thanks.

Q23: So you have a soul then?
A: Sure, don't you?

Q24: As far as I know...
A: Same goes for me. I believe I have a soul. I don't know why other people always assume I don't.

Q25: I guess it's one of those stories we hear about your kind.
A: *nodding* Probably. I kind of hate those stories.

Q26: Well back on the topic of love... Have you ever been in love?
A: Been "in-love" no... but I have loved. There are alot of people I love, but not that kind of way I guess.

Q27: Do you want to be in love?
A: Sure, why wouldn't I? It's just a bit hard to find someone that isn't scared away by what I am... or only wants me for the same reason.

Q28: So you aren't living the romantic and passionate life of the storybook vampires then?
A: Not even close to it. It's hard for me to find someone who can love me... it's far easier for me to love them. I don't have any of those mind-control things that storybook vampires, or even my father, are able to use. And even if I did I wouldn't use it. I want to be loved freely and willingly by that person. I don't want to have to plant an idea of loving me into their heads. It isn't real that way.

Q29: It sounds like you've lived a hard life. Do you go to school?
A: Yup, I'm a Junior this year.

Q30: What are your plans for after you graduate?
A: I want to find my dad and talk to him directly about what I am. I'm tired of just hearing about him from my mom.
